Make your own
Fold a paper lark.
The lark in our logo can be folded from a sheet of paper. Try folding your own!
- Valley fold: fold towards you
- Mountain fold: fold away from you
- Where the paper goes
- 1
Start with a square of paper, turned so it stands on a corner (coloured side down, if it has one).
- 2
Fold the top corner down to the bottom corner.
- 3
Fold the top edge down along a line 3/10 of the way down the triangle, so the edge lands 6/10 of the way down. This strip becomes the wings.
- 4
Turn the paper over.
- 5
Fold the bottom corner of the top layer up, so its point stops 1/10 of the way below the top edge.
- 6
Fold the whole thing in half, left over right.
- 7
Fold the front flap over to the left along the line: the first wing.
The crease starts on the edge of the top point, 3/20 of the triangle's height from the folded edge, and ends on the edge of the bottom point, 5/20 of it from the folded edge.
- 8
Fold the back flap behind along the same line: the second wing.
- 9
Inside reverse fold the head along the line: open the layers slightly, push the tip in between them so it points down, and flatten. That is the beak.
The crease starts on the folded back edge, level with the top of the wing strip, and rises at 60° towards the front.
- 10
Turn it so the back is level, and draw on an eye with a pen.
Crease pattern
Every crease in the finished lark, unfolded and seen from the side facing up in step 1: teal dashes are valley folds, red dash-dots are mountain folds. Print it at any size, crease along the lines, then follow the steps.
Some creases appear as several short lines. Each is a fold that went through only some of the layers, so it creases only part of the paper.
